May 3rd, 2026 – Fifth Sunday of Easter, Year A
ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid? Alleluia.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit
be with you all.
And with your spirit.
Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
[All strike their breast]
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
GLORIA
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you,
we bless you,
we adore you,
we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King,
O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world,
receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father,
have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
COLLECT
Let us pray.
O God, who show to your wandering people the light of your truth that they may again set their feet in the path of righteousness, grant to all those who crown themselves with the name of Christ to avoid all inconstancy as they live out their dignity as redeemed creatures. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 10:1-5, 24, 34-36, 44-48a)
In those days. At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort, a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms liberally to the people, and prayed constantly to God. About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, ‘Cornelius.’ And he stared at him in terror, and said, ‘What is it, Lord?’ And he said to him, ‘Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God. And now send men to Joppa, and bring one Simon who is called Peter.’ On the following day Peter and some of the brethren entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his kinsmen and close friends. Peter opened his mouth and said: ‘Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the word which he sent to the sons of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all).’ While Peter was still saying this, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, ‘Can anyone forbid water for baptising these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?’ And he commanded them to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
PSALM
Psalm 65 (66)
R. Great are the works of the Lord.
OR: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth;
sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise!
Say to God, ‘How mighty are your works!’ R.
‘All the earth worships you;
they sing praises to you, sing praises to your name.’
Come and see what God has done:
he is mighty in his deeds among men. R.
Come and hear, all you who fear God,
and I will tell what he has done for me.
Blessed be God,
because he has not rejected my prayer
or removed his merciful love from me. R.
EPISTLE
A reading from the Letter of St Paul to the Philippians (Phil 2:12-16)
My beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work our your own salvation with fear and trembling; for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labour in vain.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Alleluia.
If a man loves me, he will keep my word,
says the Lord,
and my Father will love him and we will come to him.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL
The Lord be with you
And with your spirit.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St John (Jn 14:21-24)
Glory to you, O Lord.
In that time. The Lord Jesus said to the disciples: ‘He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.’ Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, ‘Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world?’ Jesus answered him, ‘If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.’
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
AFTER THE GOSPEL
‘When I manifest my glory in you,’ says the Lord,
‘I will gather you from among the peoples
and I will put a new heart within you,’ alleluia, alleluia.
PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
Brothers and sisters, as we now make our prayer for our community and for the world, let us all pray to Christ the Lord, not only for ourselves and our own needs, but for the entire people.
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
CONCLUSION OF THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
May the Paschal Mystery which we have celebrated, O Lord, remain in us alive and at work. As you renew our spirits with your sacraments, continue to guide us with your unfailing paternal care. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
All-merciful Father, accept this bread,
so that it becomes the body of Christ, your Son.
Amen
All-merciful Father, accept this wine,
so that it becomes the blood of Christ, your Son.
Amen
PROFESSION OF FAITH
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified.
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
O bountiful God, bring to fulfilment in us the mystery of communion and life contained in this exchange of gifts. Lift our souls from the lures of this world to the realities of heaven. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
PREFACE
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right and just.
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
Always and everywhere to give you thanks, O Father,
And most especially in this holy season
Which the Church sets aside to contemplate and relive
The saving events of Christ’s Pasch.
And so all the faithful are united in one faith in the mystery of the
Passion of your Son, which brought them to redemption,
And rejoice in the destiny of eternal glory given to us in his Resurrection.
In honour of this grace bestowed on us, all mankind exults throughout the world.
Together with the heavenly host and all the saints
We raise to you a hymn of unending joy:
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Holy indeed and also blessed is our Lord, Jesus Christ,
Your Son.
He who is God, infinite and eternal,
came down from heaven,
He humbled himself to take the form of a servant
and came to share the lot
of those who were lost.
Of His own free will he accepted suffering
to deliver from death mankind
whom He Himself created;
with boundless love
He left us, as a sacrifice to be offered to Your Name,
His own Body and Blood,
which by the power of the Holy Spirit,
are make present upon the altar.
On the day before His passion,
when he was to suffer for our salvation,
and that of our whole world,
while He was at table with His disciples,
He took bread in His holy and venerable hands,
and with eyes raised to heaven
to You, O God, His almighty Father,
giving You thanks, He said the blessing,
broke the bread
and gave it to His disciples, saying:
Take this, all of you, and eat of it,
for this is My Body,
which will be given up for you.
In a similar way,
when supper was ended,
He took this precious chalice
in His holy and venerable hands,
and with eyes raised to heaven
to You, His almighty Father,
and once more giving You thanks, he said the blessing
and gave the chalice to His disciples, saying:
Take this, all of you, and drink from it,
for this is the chalice of My Blood,
the Blood of the new and eternal covenant,
which will be poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.
He also gave them this command:
Every time you do this,
you shall do it in memory of me:
you shall proclaim my death,
you shall announce my Resurrection,
you shall await with trust my return,
until I come to you again from Heaven.
The Mystery of Faith.
You who have redeemed us by Your holy Cross,
and by Your Resurrection:
save us, O Saviour of the world.
The Mystery that we celebrate, O Lord,
we celebrate in obedience to the command of Christ.
Send into our midst, through this sacrifice,
Him who has instituted it,
that the presence of Your Son
in this most sublime sacrament
may bring our faith to its fullness.
And grant that we, who offer the true sacrifice,
may partake of the living and mysterious reality
of the Body and Blood of the Lord.
Be pleased, O God, to accept
this Paschal sacrifice:
united with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with Saint Joseph, her Spouse,
with Saint Ambrose, Saint Ferdinand,
and with all the Saints,
together with Leo our Pope
and Mario our Bishop,
we offer it to You with humble and grateful hearts,
for Your holy Church,
spread throughout the world
and gathered together by the power of the Holy Spirit,
in the love of her Redeemer.
We offer it to You also
for the priests consecrated to You,
for this Your people,
who have found mercy in You,
and for our brothers and sisters
who have gone before us
in the sure hope
of the coming of Your Kingdom.
Inscribe in the Book of Life
the names of all,
that You may find them again
in the communion of our Lord Jesus Christ.
With Him and with the Holy Spirit,
O God, almighty Father,
all honour, praise, glory,
majesty and power is Yours
now, always,
from age to age and forever and ever.
Amen.
THE COMMUNION RITE
BREAKING OF THE BREAD
Lord, to whom shall we go?
You alone have the words of eternal life;
and we have believed, and have come to know,
that you are the Holy One of God, alleluia.
At the Saviour’s command
and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,
graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
For the kingdom,
the power and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles:
Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
look not on our sins, but on the faith of Your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will.
Who live and reign for ever and ever.
Amen.
The peace and communion of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
And with your spirit.
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.
AT HOLY COMMUNION
The angels stand around the altar,
and Christ offers Bread of the saints
and the Chalice of life
for the remission of sins, alleluia.
The Body of Christ.
Amen.
AFTER HOLY COMMUNION
Let us pray.
Sustain us with your abiding presence, O God, that the sacrament which we have received in faith may preserve us from all danger and wash us clean from all evil. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Kyrie, eleison. Kyrie, eleison. Kyrie, eleison.
May almighty God bless you,
the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen
Go in peace.
In the name of Christ.
