How great, O Lord, are all your works!

I confess to almighty God

LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING
A reading from the Book of Ecclesiasticus (Sir 18:1-2, 4-9a, 10-13b)
He who lives forever created the whole universe;
the Lord alone will be declared righteous.
To none has he given power to proclaim his works;
and who can search out his mighty deeds?
Who can measure his majestic power?
And who can fully recount his mercies?
It is not possible to diminish or increase them,
nor is it possible to trace the wonders of the Lord.
When a man has finished, he is just beginning,
and when he stops, he will be at a loss.
What is man, and of what use is he?
The number of a man’s days is great if he reaches a hundred years.
Like a drop of water from the sea and a grain of sand
so are a few years in the day of eternity.
Therefore the Lord is patient with them
and pours out his mercy upon them.
He sees and recognises that their end will be evil;
therefore he grants them forgiveness in abundance.
The compassion of man is for his neighbour,
but the compassion of the Lord is for all living beings.

EPISTLE
A reading from the Letter of St Paul to the Romans (Rom 8:18-25)
My brothers, I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but by the will of him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning with labour pains together until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Glory to you, O Lord.
In that time. The Lord Jesus taught the crowds, saying: ‘I say unto you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, not about your body, what you shall wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.’

PROFESSION OF FAITH
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Holy and eternal God, who have overcome the empty proliferation of the ancient rituals by the perfection of your single redeeming sacrifice, accept the gifts we offer as once you were pleased by the offering of Abel. Through your sanctifying grace may our praise of your glorious name redound to our salvation. Through Christ our Lord.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
The fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed
And entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take this, all of you, and eat of it,
For this is my Body,
Which will be given up for you.
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice
and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take this, all of you, and drink from it,
for this is the chalice of my Blood,
the Blood of the new and eternal covenant,

We proclaim your Death, O Lord,

BREAKING OF THE BREAD
How great is your name, O Lord our God,
through all the earth!
At the Saviour’s command
and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,
graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
For the kingdom,
the power and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Lord Jesus Christ,
who said to your Apostles:
Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
look not on our sins,
but on the faith of Your Church,
