May 21st, 2022 – Sixth Sunday of Easter

Have I been with you so long and yet you still do not know me? -says the Lord - Philip, whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Do you notbelieve that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? Hallelujah, hallelujah.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of theHoly Spirit.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,

and the love of God,

and the communion of the Holy Spirit

be with you all.

And with your spirit.

Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledgeour sins,

and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacredmysteries.

I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have greatly sinned,

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,

[All strike their breast]

through my fault, through my fault,

through my most grievous fault;

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints,

and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us,

forgive us our sins,

and bring us to everlasting life.

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his peopleon earth.

Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worshipyou, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God,Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us; you areseated at the right hand of the Father, receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are theLord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in theglory of God the Father. Amen.

Let us pray.

O God, be our teacher within, guide our feet on the way ofrighteousness and, giving us the desire for a more perfect life, make the graceof the Easter mystery perennial in us. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

A reading of the Acts ofthe Apostles (21:40b- 22, 22)

In those days, Paul stood on the steps andmotioned with his hand to the people; and when all was quiet he addressed themin Hebrew.

«My brothers andfathers, listen to what I am about to say to you in my defense.» When theyheard him addressing them in Hebrew they became all the more quiet. And hecontinued, «I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city.At the feet of Gamaliel I was educated strictly in our ancestral law and waszealous for God, just as all of you are today. I persecuted this Way to death, binding both men and women and delivering them to prison. Even the high priestand the whole council of elders can testify on my be- half. For from them Ieven received letters to the brothers and set out for Damascus to bring back toJerusalem in chains for punishment those there as well. On that journey as Idrew near to Damascus, about noon a great light from the sky suddenly shonearound me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?' I replied, 'Who are you, sir?' And he said to me,'I am Jesus the Nazorean whom you are persecuting.' My companions saw the lightbut did not hear the voice of the one who spoke to me. I asked, 'What shall Ido, sir?' The Lord answered me, 'Get up and go into Damascus, and there youwill be told about everything appointed for you to do.' Since I could seenothing because of the brightness of that light, I was led by hand by mycompanions and entered Damascus. A certain Ananias, a devout observer of thelaw, and highly spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, came to me and stoodthere and said, 'Saul, my brother, regain your sight.' And at that very momentI regained my sight and saw him. Then he said, 'The God of our ancestorsdesignated you to know his will, to see the Righteous One, and to hear thesound of his voice; for you will be his witness before all to what you have seenand heard. Now, why delay? Get up and have yourself baptized and your sinswashed away, calling upon his name.' After I had returned to Jerusalem andwhile I was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance and saw the Lord sayingto me, 'Hurry, leave Jerusalem at once, because they will not accept yourtestimony about me.' But I replied, 'Lord, they themselves know that fromsynagogue to synagogue I used to imprison and beat those who believed in you.And when the blood of your witness Stephen was being shed, I myself stood bygiving my approval and keeping guard over the cloaks of his murderers.' Then hesaid to me, 'Go, I shall send you far away to the Gentiles.'» They listened tohim until he said this, but then they raised their voices and shouted, «Takesuch a one as this away from the earth. It is not right that he should live.»

The Word of God.

Thanks be to God.

The letter to the Hebrews (7:17-26)

Brothers: This is testified of Christ: «Youare a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.» On the one hand, aformer commandment is annulled because of its weakness and uselessness, for thelaw brought nothing to perfection; on the other hand, a better hope isintroduced, through which we draw near to God. And to the degree that thishappened not without the taking of an oath – for others became priests withoutan oath, but he with an oath, through the one who said to him: «The Lord hassworn, and he will not repent: 'You are a priest forever'» – to that samedegree has Jesus [also] become the guarantee of an [even] better covenant. Those priests were many because they were prevented by death from remaining inoffice, but he, because he remains forever, has a priesthood that does not passaway. Therefore, he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them. It was fitting that weshould have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated fromsinners, higher than the heavens.

The Word of God.

Thanks be to God.

A little while and youwill no longer see me,

says the Lord.

The Lord be with you

And also with you

A reading of the holy gospelaccording to John (16:12-22)

Glory to you, Lord.

In that time, The Lord Jesus said to thedisciples: «I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But whenhe comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will notspeak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you thethings that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what ismine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for thisreason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Alittle while and you will no longer see me, and again a little while later andyou will see me.» So some of his disciples said to one another,

«What does this mean that he is saying to us,'A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you willsee me,' and 'Because I am going to the Father?'» So they said, «What is this'little while' [of which he speaks]? We do not know what he means.» Jesus knewthat they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, «Are you discussing with oneanother what I said, 'A little while and you will not see me, and again alittle while and you will see me?' Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep andmourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will becomejoy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived;but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the painbecause of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also arenow in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and noone will take your joy away from you.»

The word of the Lord.

Praise to you, LordJesus Christ.

God, guard and sanctify your people. Lord, we are divided: uniteus! Free those who are slaves of your enemies so that everyone knows that youare our God, hallelujah.

Dear brothers and sisters, filled withpaschal joy,

to the prayers and supplications ofhis beloved Son,

may now be pleased to look upon us inour lowliness.

Blessed are you, LordGod of all creation,

for through yourgoodness we have received

the bread we offer you:

fruit of the earth andwork of human hands,

it will become for usthe bread of life.

Blessed be God forever.

Blessed are you, LordGod of all creation,

for through yourgoodness we have received

this wine we offer you:

fruit of the vine and work of human hands,

it will become ourspiritual drink.

Blessed be God forever.

I believe in one God,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven andearth,

of all things visibleand invisible.

I believe in one LordJesus Christ,

the Only begotten Son ofGod,

born of the Fatherbefore all ages.

God from God, Light fromLight,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,consubstantial with the Father;

through him all thingswere made.

For us men and for oursalvation

he came down fromheaven,

and by the Holy Spiritwas incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

For our sake he wascrucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death andwas buried,

and rose again on thethird day

in accordance with theScriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at theright hand of the Father.

He will come again inglory

to judge the living andthe dead

and his kingdom willhave no end.

We believe in the HolySpirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from theFather and the Son,

with the Father and theSon is adored and glorified.

who has spoken throughthe prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptismfor the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward tothe resurrection of the dead

and the life of theworld to come. Amen.

Father, let us diligently renew our participation in these holymysteries because, every time the memory of your immolated and risen Son iscelebrated with this offering, the work of our redemption is revived and made effective.Through Christ our Lord.

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to theLord.

Let us give thanks tothe Lord our God.

It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and oursalvation,

To praise you, Lord, at all times,

And now to glorify you with greater acclaim

For Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed.

He continues to offer himself for us,

To plead our cause eternally before you;

Christ is the sacrifice who dies no more,

Christ has been slain, and now is alive forever.

And so, in the joy of this Passover,

Earth and heaven resound with gladness.

The angels and the powers of all creation

Sing the ageless hymn of your glory:

Holy, holy, holy, LordGod of hosts.

Heaven and earth arefull of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comesin the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

You are indeed Holy, OLord,

The fount of allholiness.

Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,

by sending down yourSpirit upon them like the dewfall,

so that they may becomefor us

the Body and Blood ofour Lord Jesus Christ.

At the time he wasbetrayed

And entered willinglyinto his Passion,

he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,

and gave it to hisdisciples, saying:

Takethis, all of you, and eat of it,

Forthis is my Body,

Whichwill be given up for you.

In a similar way, whensupper was ended,

he took the chalice

and, once more givingthanks,

he gave it to hisdisciples, saying:

Takethis, all of you, and drink from it,

forthis is the chalice of my Blood,

theBlood of the new and eternal covenant,

Whichwill be poured out for you and for many

forthe forgiveness of sins.

Dothis in memory of me.

The mystery of faith.

We proclaim your Death,O Lord,

and profess yourResurrection

until you come again.

Therefore, as we celebrate

the memorial of hisDeath and Resurrection,

we offer you, Lord,

the Bread of life andthe Chalice of salvation,

giving thanks that youhave held us worthy

to be in your presenceand minister to you.

Humbly we pray

that, partaking of theBody and Blood of Christ,

we may be gathered intoone by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, yourChurch,

spread throughout theworld,

and bring her to thefullness of charity,

together with Francisour Pope

and Mario our Bishop,

and all the clergy.

Remember also ourbrothers and sisters

who have fallen asleepin the hope of the resurrection,

and all who have died inyour mercy:

welcome them into thelight of your face.

Have mercy on us all, wepray,

that with the BlessedVirgin Mary, Mother of God,

with blessed Joseph, herSpouse

with the blessedApostles,

and all the Saints whohave pleased you throughout the ages,

we may merit to becoheirs to eternal life,

and may praise andglorify you

through your Son, JesusChrist.

Through him, and with him,and in him,

O God, almighty Father,

In the unity of the HolySpirit,

all glory and honor isyours,

For ever and ever

I cried out to the Lord and he answered me from his holy hill. Iwill not fear the onslaught of even one thousand enemies.

As the Savior’s command

and formed by divine teaching,

we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Deliver us, Lord, wepray, from every evil,

graciously grant peacein our days,

that, by the help ofyour mercy,

we may be always freefrom sin

and safe from alldistress,

as we await the blessedhope

and the coming of ourSaviour, Jesus Christ.

For the kingdom,

the power and the gloryare yours

now and for ever.

Lord Jesus Christ,

who said to yourApostles:

Peace I leave you, mypeace I give you,

look not on our sins,

but on the faith of YourChurch,

and graciously grant herpeace and unity

in accordance with yourwill.

Who live and reign forever and ever.

The peace and communionof our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.

And with your spirit.

Behold the Lamb of God,

behold him who takesaway the sins of the world.

Blessed are those calledto the supper of the Lamb.

Lord, I am not worthy

that you should enterunder my roof,

but only say the word

and my soul shall behealed.

The body of Christ

Let us pray.

Father, let us draw life and strength from your table of grace, conformour hearts to your will and grant all righteous desires. Through Christ ourLord.

The Lord be with you.
