And with your spirit.

Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledgeour sins,

and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacredmysteries.

I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have greatly sinned,

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,

[All strike their breast]

through my fault, through my fault,

through my most grievous fault;

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints,

and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us,

forgive us our sins,

and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen.

Glory to God in the highest,

and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you,

we bless you,

we adore you,

we glorify you,

we give you thanks for your great glory,

Lord God, heavenly King,

O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Begotten Son,

Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us;

you take away the sins of the world,

receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father,

have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,

you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High,

Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

BEGINNING OF THE LITURGICAL ASSEMBLY

O God, who by the power of the Holy Spirit indelibly inscribes theholiness of your law in the hearts of believers, allow us to grow in faith, hope and love so that by always conforming to your will, we may one day begranted the Promised Land. Through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord and ourGod, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, foreverand ever.

FIRST READING

A reading of the book of Deuteronomy (6:4a;18:9-22)

In those days, Mosessaid: «Hear, O Israel! When you come into the land which the Lord, your God, isgiving you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of the nationsthere. Let there not be found among you anyone who causes their son or daughterto pass through the fire, or practices divination, or is a soothsayer, augur,or sorcerer, or who casts spells, consults ghosts and spirits, or seeks oraclesfrom the dead. Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord, andbecause of such abominations the Lord, your God, is dispossessing them beforeyou. You must be altogether sincere with the Lord, your God. Although thesenations whom you are about to dispossess listen to their soothsayers anddiviners, the Lord, your God, will not permit you to do so. A prophet like mewill the Lord, your God, raise up for you from among your own kindred; that isthe one to whom you shall listen. This is exactly what you requested of theLord, your God, at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, 'Let me notagain hear the voice of the Lord, my God, nor see this great fire any more, orI will die.' And the Lord said to me, 'What they have said is good. I willraise up for them a prophet like you from among their kindred, and will put mywords into the mouth of the prophet; the prophet shall tell them all that Icommand. Anyone who will not listen to my words which the prophet speaks in myname, I myself will hold accountable for it. But if a prophet presumes to speaka word in my name that I have not commanded, or speaks in the name of othergods, that prophet shall die.' Should you say to yourselves, 'How can werecognize that a word is one the Lord has not spoken?,' if a prophet speaks inthe name of the Lord but the word does not come true, it is a word the Lord didnot speak. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not fear him.»

The Word of God.

Thanks be to God.

PSALM

Psalm 105

R. Save us, Lord, ourGod.

We have sinned like our ancestors;

we have done wrong and are guilty.

Our ancestors in Egypt

did not attend to your wonders.

They did not remember your manifold mercy. R.

Many times did he rescue them,

but they kept rebelling and scheming.

Still God had regard for their affliction

when he heard their wailing. R.

For their sake he remembered his covenant

and relented

in his abundant mercy,

winning for them compassion

from all who held them captive. R.

EPISTLE

Theletter of saint Paul to to the Romans (3:21-26)

Brothers: Now therighteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, though testifiedto by the law and the prophets, the righteousness of God through faith in JesusChrist for all who believe. For there is no distinction; all have sinned andare deprived of the glory of God. They are justified freely by his gracethrough the redemption in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as an expiation, through faith, by his blood, to prove his righteousness because of theforgiveness of sins previously committed, through the forbearance of God – toprove his righteousness in the present time, that he might be righteous and justifythe one who has faith in Jesus.

The Word of God.

Thanks be to God.

Glory and praise to you,Lord Jesus Christ.

Believe in me, says theLord:

whoever belongs to God

hears the words of God.

Glory and praise to you,Lord Jesus Christ.

GOSPEL

The Lord be with you

And also with you

A reading of the holygospel according to John (8:31-59)

Glory to you, Lord.

In that time, The LordJesus said to those Jews who believed in him, «If you remain in my word, youwill truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will setyou free.» They answered him, «We are descendants of Abraham and have never beenenslaved to anyone. How can you say, 'You will become free?'» Jesus answeredthem, «Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. Aslave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains. So if ason frees you, then you will truly be free. I know that you are descendants ofAbraham. But you are trying to kill me, because my word has no room among you.I tell you what I have seen in the Father’s presence; then do what you haveheard from the Father.» They answered and said to him, «Our father is Abraham.»Jesus said to them, «If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing theworks of Abraham. But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you thetruth that I heard from God; Abraham did not do this. You are doing the worksof your father!» [So] they said to him, «We are not illegitimate. We have oneFather, God.» Jesus said to them, «If God were your Father, you would love me,for I came from God and am here; I did not come on my own, but he sent me. Whydo you not understand what I am saying? Because you cannot bear to hear myword. You belong to your father the devil and you willingly carry out yourfather’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand intruth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks incharacter, because he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I speak thetruth, you do not believe me. Can any of you charge me with sin? If I amtelling the truth, why do you not believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears thewords of God; for this reason you do not listen, because you do not belong toGod.» The Jews answered and said to him, «Are we not right in saying that youare a Samaritan and are possessed?» Jesus answered, «I am not possessed; I honormy Father, but you dishonor me. I do not seek my own glory; there is one whoseeks it and he is the one who judges. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keepsmy word will never see death.» (So) the Jews said to him, «Now we are sure thatyou are possessed. Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, 'Whoeverkeeps my word will never taste death.' Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? Or the prophets, who died? Who do you make yourself out to be?» Jesusanswered, «If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing; but it is my Fatherwho glorifies me, of whom you say, 'He is our God.' You do not know him, but Iknow him. And if I should say that I do not know him, I would be like you aliar. But I do know him and I keep his word. Abraham your father rejoiced tosee my day; he saw it and was glad.» So the Jews said to him, «You are not yetfifty years old and you have seen Abraham?» Jesus said to them, «Amen, amen, Isay to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM.» So they picked up stones to throwat him; but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.

The word of the Lord.

Praise to you, LordJesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed

And entered willinglyinto his Passion,

he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,

and gave it to hisdisciples, saying:

Takethis, all of you, and eat of it,

Forthis is my Body,

Whichwill be given up for you.

In a similar way, when supperwas ended,

he took the chalice

and, once more givingthanks,

he gave it to hisdisciples, saying:

Takethis, all of you, and drink from it,

forthis is the chalice of my Blood,

theBlood of the new and eternal covenant,

Whichwill be poured out for you and for many

forthe forgiveness of sins.

Dothis in memory of me.

The mystery of faith.

We proclaim your Death,O Lord,

and profess yourResurrection

until you come again.

Therefore, as wecelebrate

the memorial of hisDeath and Resurrection,

the Bread of life andthe Chalice of salvation,

giving thanks that youhave held us worthy

to be in your presenceand minister to you.

Humbly we pray

that, partaking of theBody and Blood of Christ,

we may be gathered intoone by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, yourChurch,

spread throughout theworld,

and bring her to thefullness of charity,

together with Francisour Pope

and Mario our Bishop,

and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothersand sisters

who have fallen asleepin the hope of the resurrection,

and all who have died inyour mercy:

welcome them into thelight of your face.

Have mercy on us all, wepray,

that with the BlessedVirgin Mary, Mother of God,

with blessed Joseph, herSpouse

with the blessedApostles,

and all the Saints whohave pleased you throughout the ages,

we may merit to becoheirs to eternal life,
