December 8th, 2022 – Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON

I will rejoice heartily in the LORD, my being exults in my God; for he has clothed me with garments of salvation, and wrapped me in a robe of justice, like a bridegroom adorned with a diadem, as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

In the name of the Father, and of theSon, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The grace of our Lord JesusChrist,

and the love of God,

and the communion of the HolySpirit

be with you all.

And with your spirit.

Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins,

and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have greatly sinned,

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,

[All strike their breast]

through my fault, through my fault,

through my most grievous fault;

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints,

and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy onus,

forgive us our sins,

and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen.

COLLECT

Let us pray.

O God, who in anticipation of the redemptive death of Christ from the first moment preserved the Virgin Mary from every stain of sin and thus prepared a worthy dwelling for your Son made man, grant that we too may run to greet you in holiness and purity of life. Through our Lord and God, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever.

Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING

A reading from the Book of Genesis (3:9a,11b-15, 20)

TheLORD God then called to the man and asked him: Have youeaten from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat? Theman replied, ‘The woman whom you put here with me—she gave me fruit from thetree, so I ate it.’ The LORD God then asked the woman:What is this you have done? The woman answered, ‘The snake tricked me, so I ateit.’ Then the LORD God said to the snake:

Because you have done this,

cursed are you

among all the animals, tame or wild;

On your belly you shall crawl,

and dust you shall eat

all the days of your life.

I will put enmity between you and the woman,

and between your offspring and hers;

They will strike at your head,

while you strike at their heel.

The man gave his wife the name ‘Eve,’ because she was the mother of all the living.

The Word of theLord.

Thanks be to God.

PSALM

Psalm 86 (87)

R. Glorious things are said of you,

O city of God!

His foundation is on holy mountains,

The LORD loves the gates of Zion

more than any dwelling in Jacob.

Glorious things are said of you,

O city of God! R.

Rahab and Babylon I count

among those who know me.

See, Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia,

‘This one was born there.’ R.

And of Zion it will be said:

‘Each one was born in it.’

The Most High will establish it. R.

The LORD notes in the register of the peoples:

‘This one was born there.’

So singers and dancers:

‘All my springs are in you.’ R.

THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

Blessed are you,Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received

the bread we offer you:

fruit of the earth and work of human hands,

it will become for us the bread of life.

Blessed be God forever.

Blessed are you,Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received

this wine we offer you:

fruit of the vine and work of human hands,

it will become our spiritual drink.

Blessed be God forever.

PROFESSION OFFAITH

I believe in oneGod,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in oneLord Jesus Christ,

the Only begottenSon of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God,Light from Light,

true God from trueGod,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

and by the HolySpirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in theHoly Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified.

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess oneBaptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS

Accept, O Father, the sacrifice of salvation that we offer you with joy on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. May the maternal intercession of the spotless Virgin allow us to be freed from all guilt. Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

PREFACE

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right and just.

It is truly right and just

Always and everywhere to give you thanks,

Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

You kept theBlessed Virgin Mary

Free from the mark of original sin;

You endowed her a worthy mother of your Son.

In Mary, you mark the beginning of your Church,

Which is to be presented to Christ

As his fair and spotless bride.

Purest of virgins, she was to bear your Son,

The innocent Lamb who takes away our sins.

You chose her before all other women

To be for your people an advocate of grace

And a pattern of holiness.

And we, your faithful people devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary, together with the choirs of angels raise our voices in praise of your glory:

Holy, holy, holy,Lord God of hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

You are indeedHoly, O Lord,

The fount of all holiness.

Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,

by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,

so that they may become for us

the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed

And entered willingly into his Passion,

he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,

and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take this, all of you, and eat of it,

For this is my Body,

Which will be given up for you.

In a similar way, when supper was ended,

he took the chalice

and, once more giving thanks,

he gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take this, all of you, and drink from it,

for this is the chalice of my Blood,

the Blood of the new and eternal covenant,

Which will be poured out for you and for many

for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this in memory of me.

The mystery offaith.

We proclaim yourDeath, O Lord,

and profess yourResurrection

until you come again.

Therefore, as we celebrate

the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,

we offer you,Lord,

the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,

giving thanks that you have held us worthy

to be in your presence and minister to you.

Humbly we pray

that, partaking oft he Body and Blood of Christ,

we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your Church,

spread throughout the world,

and bring her to the fullness of charity,

together withFrancis our Pope

and Mario ourBishop,

and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisters

who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,

and all who have died in your mercy:

welcome them into the light of your face.

Have mercy on us all, we pray,

that with theBlessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,

with blessedJoseph, her Spouse

with the blessedApostles,

and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,

we may merit to becoheirs to eternal life,

and may praise and glorify you

through your Son,Jesus Christ.

Through him, and with him, and in him,

O God, almightyFather,

In the unity of the Holy Spirit,

all glory and honour is yours,

Forever and ever

Amen.

THE COMMUNION RITE

BREAKING OF THE BREAD

The Lord, the living God, has shownme mercy, and has revealed the glory of his Mother to the world. I will praiseyou, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies exultover me.

At the Saviour’s command

and formed by divine teaching,

we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespassagainst us;

and lead us not intotemptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our days,

that, by the help of your mercy,

we may be always free from sin

and safe from all distress,

as we await the blessed hope

and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

For the kingdom,

the power and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Lord JesusChrist,

who said to yourApostles:

Peace I leave you,my peace I give you,

look not on our sins,

but on the faith of Your Church,

and graciously grant her peace and unity

in accordance with your will.

Who live and reign for ever and ever.

Amen.

The peace and communion of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.

And with your spirit.

Behold the Lamb ofGod,

behold him who takes away the sins of the world.

Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

Lord, I am not worthy

that you should enter under my roof,

but only say the word

and my soul shall be healed.
