FIRST READING

A reading of the Acts ofthe Apostles (4:8-24a)

In those days, Peter, filled with the holy Spirit, answered them, «Leaders of the people and elders:If we are being examined to- day about a good deed done to a cripple, namely,by what means he was saved, then all of you and all the people of Israel shouldknow that it was in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead; in his name this man stands before you healed. He is 'the stone rejected by you, the builders, which has become thecornerstone.' There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any othername under heaven given to the hu- man race by which we are to be saved.» Ob-serving the boldness of Peter and John and perceiving them to be uneducated, ordinary men, they were amazed, and they recognized them as the companions ofJesus. Then when they saw the man who had been cured standing there with them, they could say nothing in reply. So they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, and conferred with one another, saying, «What are we to do with these men?Everyone living in Jerusalem knows that a remarkable sign was done throughthem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it may not be spread any further amongthe people, let us give them a stern warning never again to speak to anyone inthis name.» So they called them back and ordered them not to speak or teach atall in the name of Jesus. Peter and John, however, said to them in reply,«Whether it is right in the sight of God for us to obey you rather than God,you be the judges. It is impossible for us not to speak about what we have seenand heard.» After threatening them further, they released them, finding no wayto punish them, on account of the people who were all praising God for what hadhappened. For the man on whom this sign of healing had been done was over fortyyears old. After their release they went back to their own people and reportedwhat the chief priests and elders had told them. And when they heard it, theyraised their voices to God.

The Word of God.

Thanks be to God.

EPISTLE

The letter of saint Paul to the Colossians(2:8-15)

Brothers: See to it thatno one captivate you with an empty, seductive philosophy according to humantradition, according to the elemental powers of the world and not according toChrist. For in him dwells the whole fullness of the deity bodily, and you sharein this fullness in him, who is the head of every principality and power. Inhim you were also circumcised with a circumcision not administered by hand, bystripping off the carnal body, with the circumcision of Christ. You were buriedwith him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith inthe power of God, who raised him from the dead. And even when you were dead[in] transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he brought you tolife along with him, having forgiven us all our transgressions; obliteratingthe bond against us, with its legal claims, which was opposed to us, he alsoremoved it from our midst, nailing it to the cross; despoiling theprincipalities and the powers, he made a public spectacle of them, l leading themaway in triumph by it.

The Word of God.

Thanks be to God.

Hallelujah

Thomas, you have come tobelieve

because you have seenme:

blessed are those whohave not seen

and have believed.

Hallelujah

GOSPEL

The Lord be with you

And also with you

A reading of the holygospel according to John (20:19-31)

Glory to you, Lord.

In that time, On the evening of that firstday of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fearof the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, «Peace bewith you.» When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Thedisciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. [Jesus] said to them again, «Peacebe with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.» And when he had saidthis, he breathed on them and said to them, «Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sinsyou forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.» Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So theother disciples said to him, «We have seen the Lord.» But he said to them,«Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into thenailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.» Now a week laterhis disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, althoughthe doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, «Peace be with you.»Then he said to Thomas, «Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring yourhand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.» Thomasanswered and said to him,

«My Lord and my God!» Jesus said to him,

«Have you come tobelieve because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and havebelieved.» Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of [his] disciplesthat are not written in this book. But these are written that you may [come to]believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this beliefyou may have life in his name.

The word of the Lord.

Praise to you, LordJesus Christ.

AFTER THE GOSPEL

Angels of the Lord,bless the Lord; you heavens, bless the Lord. Sun and moon, bless the Lord;

At the time he wasbetrayed

And entered willinglyinto his Passion,

he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,

and gave it to hisdisciples, saying:

Takethis, all of you, and eat of it,

Forthis is my Body,

Whichwill be given up for you.

In a similar way, whensupper was ended,

he took the chalice

and, once more givingthanks,

he gave it to hisdisciples, saying:

Takethis, all of you, and drink from it,

forthis is the chalice of my Blood,

theBlood of the new and eternal covenant,

Whichwill be poured out for you and for many

forthe forgiveness of sins.

Dothis in memory of me.
